FACIAL FILLERS UPDATE
JUVÉDERM®* and RADIESSE® are two of the most popular “quick fixes” for wrinkle treatment. These fillers can improve wrinkles and fill in sunken areas of the aging face. When used in larger quantities (7 or 8 syringes), the results can be truly dramatic, many times almost like invasive procedures such as facelifts. At Dr. Yoho’s office, we encourage our patients to have at least three syringes (and discount this to $1,000) in order to have a definite improvement. JUVEDERM® is softer, but does not last quite as long as RADIESSE®. If the patient is willing to undergo a minor operation, fat can be extracted from fatty areas of the body and placed in the face, and this might even have better long-term effects than either of the above. The problem: recovery from fat transplant can be significant. The fat actually gets absorbed and taken up by the body’s own tissues and becomes part of the normal fat structure of the face after the healing process occurs. This is perhaps the best filler over the long term, but this involves more training and artistry for the physician and more hassle for the patient, and it’s generally more expensive.
*An almost identical product is Restylane®.
